To check on a missed court date in Calhoun County, call the clerk of the court that set the appearance. That court controls its own file. Port Lavaca Municipal Court, the precinct courts, and the higher trial courts each run separate case routes, so a status question goes to whichever one sent the notice. Have the citation or cause number handy when you call. Ask what the court requires before you pay or show up, since the label on a missed date can vary. The issuing clerk can tell you the current status and whether a reset, hearing, or other step is already on file.

Calhoun County Bench Warrants Explained

“Bench warrant” is everyday shorthand for court-issued process after a missed appearance or another failure to comply. The record itself may say arrest warrant, capias, capias pro fine, or FTA. The name matters less than the court behind it. Whichever court set the matter controls the status and any reset, payment, hearing, or recall instruction. In Calhoun County, that court could be a municipal court, one of five JP courts, County Court at Law No. 1, or a district court. A Sheriff contact can help with execution or routing. But the sheriff cannot stand in for the issuing judge or clerk when it comes to recall.

Port Lavaca’s Ten-Day Rule Is Local

Port Lavaca Municipal Court handles the city's Class C traffic and ordinance cases, including matters from City Police, Code Enforcement, and Animal Control. Its court page sets a firm deadline. A person must appear within ten calendar days. A phone call does not count as an appearance, and extensions must be made in person or in writing. That rule belongs to Port Lavaca Municipal Court alone. Calhoun County does not run every JP, Seadrift, Point Comfort, County Court at Law, or district case on the same ten-day clock. Read the citation and contact its court. The city's Municipal Court page lists the rule and the official contact.

How Calhoun County Bench Warrants Are Issued

A court can issue process for several reasons. A required appearance gets missed. A notice deadline passes. A judgment goes unsatisfied, or a judge-directed setting is not met. The trigger depends on the case. An initial arrest warrant based on probable cause differs from a warrant tied to a failure to appear or a fine judgment. Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 45A governs justice and municipal court process. It covers arrest warrants, voluntary appearance, capias pro fine, hardship, and recall rules. A good-faith voluntary appearance can matter in the lower-court circumstances the chapter covers, though Calhoun County courts do not all follow one procedure. Read the state law at Chapter 45A.

JP1 Through JP5 Keep Separate Routes

A JP case belongs with its own precinct clerk. JP1 sits at 201 W. Austin, Room 12, Port Lavaca, phone 361-553-4621. JP2 is next door in Room 11, phone 361-553-4622. JP3 keeps an office at 112 Jones Street in Point Comfort and a Port Lavaca courtroom, phone 361-987-2930. JP4 is at 103 W. Dallas in Seadrift, phone 361-785-7082. JP5 serves the Port O'Connor area from 508 W. Main Street, phone 361-983-2351. The Calhoun County pages list these contacts, but no JP-wide warrant portal or shared bond schedule exists, so use the precinct named on the citation.

Bench Warrants and Arrest Warrants Compared

A bench warrant follows a court event such as a missed appearance or noncompliance. An arrest warrant generally follows a magistrate's probable-cause review under Chapter 15. The terms can overlap on a local docket, so ask the clerk what was actually issued. The separate Calhoun County arrest warrant page explains the initial criminal-process route.

Seadrift’s Clerk Prepares Local Process

Seadrift posts no online warrant portal. Its municipal clerk job description says the clerk maintains legal records, collects fines and fees, prepares warrants and subpoenas, schedules dockets, and coordinates with law enforcement. That makes the clerk or City Hall the practical first call for a Seadrift citation. The Office of Court Administration directory lists Seadrift Municipal Court at 361-785-2218. City Hall sits at 501 S. Main and lists 361-785-2251. Keep the city case separate from JP4, which uses the nearby 103 W. Dallas address and its own court number. In Calhoun County, mixing those two files is an easy mistake.

Resolving a Calhoun County Bench Warrant

Ask the court what is on file: a warrant, capias, capias pro fine, or FTA. Then ask whether a voluntary appearance, reset, show-cause hearing, payment plan, or attorney motion is available, and what confirms recall. If payment is offered, pin down what it resolves. Does it close the citation, the FTA, the warrant, or only the balance? Port Lavaca warns that paying by phone or mail can be a plea and conviction on the underlying citation, so ask before sending anything in Calhoun County.

Note: Calhoun County has no universal walk-in surrender window, and no public countywide surrender hours, bond counter schedule, or recall form.

For custody routing, Calhoun County Adult Detention lists 361-553-4475. For district or arrest exposure, ask an attorney about a planned appearance. Keep the receipt or court order, and ask when online systems will update.

Point Comfort and JP3 Are Different Courts

Point Comfort Municipal Court answers calls at 361-987-2661 and mail at P.O. Box 497. JP3 is a different court. Its office sits at 112 Jones Street, phone 361-987-2930, and its courtroom is in Port Lavaca. Both sit in the same part of Calhoun County. Neither can confirm the other's cases. A Point Comfort search route will not settle a JP3 warrant, and a JP3 inquiry cannot resolve city-court business. Copy the court name and your cause or citation number from the notice before you call. No Point Comfort warrant portal exists, so the correct clerk is the route.

Finding the Court That Issued the Warrant

County Court at Law No. 1 takes calls at 361-553-4640, and Odyssey can serve as a case-discovery aid. District records sit with the District Clerk, 361-553-4630. Three district courts serve Calhoun County: the 24th, the 135th, and the 267th Judicial District Courts. Their dockets cross county lines. The county and cause number matter most. The county Courts page links clerk and JP offices. Odyssey may show a docket entry, but it is not a definitive warrant-status screen. The closest office is not always the issuing court, and only that court can state how to obtain recall or confirmation.

Calhoun County Has No General Surrender Window

No Calhoun County Sheriff or detention page posts a walk-in surrender process, bond schedule, or warrant-counter hours. The Adult Detention Center sits at 302 W. Live Oak, though no official page guarantees a walk-in bond window or 24-hour bond service. Call first. Port Lavaca's 2026 notice read differently. It offered Thursday off-docket access and a roundup-day judge window through September 30. Those terms apply only to that dated city program. If the deadline passes, ask the court directly. The current Municipal Court page or another court can explain its own process. A planned appearance can be worked out with the issuing clerk or counsel in Calhoun County.
